Teaching Jobs in New Zealand
Overseas teachers have long been attracted to the New Zealand climate, lifestyle and classrooms.
With growing school rolls and smaller classes, teachers have been able to come to New Zealand to work in some of the most exciting schools in the world.
Overseas-trained teachers need to be extremely competent in written and spoken English.
The majority of overseas teachers working in New Zealand schools have come from countries with strong language, cultural and educational similarities with New Zealand such as Australia, Canada, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Main Business Activity
TeachNZ, a unit of the Ministry of Education, promotes the teaching profession in New Zealand and supports teacher recruitment.
It gives overseas-trained teachers the information they need to find and take up teaching positions in New Zealand and helps New Zealand teachers living overseas, who are considering returning here to teach.
Throughout New Zealand there are currently 2127 state and state-integrated primary schools, 97 composite schools and 333 secondary schools. In the last few years some schools in the upper North Island, particularly in the Auckland region, have had high roll growth.
