Who We Are
Mighty River Power is an integrated energy generation, trading, retailing and metering business providing up to 22% of New Zealand’s total electricity. Mighty River Power retails gas and electricity to more than 320,000 business and domestic customers through our Mercury Energy brand. Our metering business Metrix provides meters and meter-reading services to residential and commercial customers across Auckland, and to other electricity retailers.
Our hydro generation assets are based on Lake Taupo and eight dams on the Waikato River, supplemented by growing capabilities in combined cycle generation and landfill methane generation. Mighty River Power currently operates geothermal sites at Rotokawa and Mokai in conjunction with Iwi partners and has been awarded resource consents for a geothermal development at Kawerau.
Over the next three years,Mighty River Power plans to further increase its geothermal generation portfolio. Wind, thermal, gas and small hydro generation options are currently also being explored by Mighty River Power. Mighty River Power also has an active gas exploration programme.
