Who we are/what we do
Telecom is New Zealand’s only full-service provider of ICT products and services. As an organisation, we’re focused on inspiring and enabling our customers to be the most connected people in the world.
Our customers span a breadth of markets – from urban and rural New Zealand families, to active youth throughout the country to progressive small and medium businesses and some of New Zealand’s largest enterprises. To keep them connected we utilise our full range of ICT products and services - we own fixed line and mobile networks, are the market leading ISP provider and IT company in NZ, and have an exciting wholesale operation, a strong directories business and a portfolio of growth options including online trading and an Australian business.
Operating in one of the world’s most exciting industries, our heritage is innately Kiwi but our operations are world class. Telecom was formed in 1987 out of the telecommunications division of the New Zealand Post Office, a government department. In 1990 Telecom became one of the first Telcos in the world to be fully privatised. Since then we’ve grown into the full service ICT provider we are today. We’re listed on the New Zealand, Australian and New York stock exchanges.
Our environment is charged by ever-changing external dynamics that we’re constantly challenged to keep abreast of. We meet this challenge by focusing on our people and their development.
Location
We have corporate offices in Auckland, Wellington and Sydney, large contact centres in Hamilton, Christchurch, Bendigo and Robina, and retail outlets in every major New Zealand town.
Number of employees
We have a team of more than 9,000 passionate people across New Zealand and Australia.

What makes Telecom an employer of choice
Our people are our most important asset. Our annual employee engagement survey identifies Career Opportunities as a key driver of our people’s engagement with the company - so we provide our people with career opportunities unrivalled in our marketplace.
At all levels of the organisation we have career and development programmes in place to build talent internally and enable our people to career plan within the company.
We also proactively encourage and facilitate the movement of people across our many operating divisions so they can specialise if that’s their ambition or broaden their capabilities with different skill sets and experience.
At Telecom we value our people. We see connecting with our people as key to enabling our ability to inspire and connect with customers as we connect them with the world.
