Who we are
Powerco owns, designs and operates electricity and gas networks across New Zealand’s North Island and increasingly in Tasmania, Australia. Lines and pipes, the vital infrastructure that connects homes and businesses with the energy they need, are Powerco’s business. A growing economy relies on power and New Zealand’s energy infrastructure sector is constantly being asked to deliver more – more capacity, more flexibility, more efficiency.
The best in growth and innovation
Powerco has risen to this challenge, having strategically targeted acquisitions and mergers over the past 10 years, making us very much a business on the move. By consumer connections we are now New Zealand’s second largest natural gas distributor and also the second largest for electricity. We have also been rated by a leading New Zealand financial newspaper as best in the local electricity and gas sector for growth and innovation.

Our vision is clear
In Australia, Powerco is developing a major natural gas network in Tasmania. Looking to the future, our vision is very clear. We aim to continue to provide safe and reliable distribution network services and to become New Zealand’s premier lines and pipes utility, achieving consistent commercial returns for our shareholders.
