Working in New Zealand

New Zealand's career and lifestyle prospects have never been better!

New Zealand’s career and lifestyle prospects have never been better

Tourists and adventure-seekers have long been attracted to New Zealand’s warm hospitality and pristine environment, but we can also offer challenging careers to go with our fantastic lifestyle.

New Zealand's economy

New Zealand’s economy has grown by more than the OECD average over the last seven years.

Since 1999, growth in the economy as a whole has been about 27% and growth in real income per capita (our average standard of living), about 19%.

New Zealand’s unemployment rate

We have consistently had one of the lowest unemployment rates in the OECD. This is currently 3.6% and our labour force participation (68.8%) is at its highest level since 2003. This means we’ll need more skilled and talented people with an international perspective, to build on, and share in this prosperity.

The career and lifestyle prospects available in New Zealand have never been better.

New Zealand continues to transform into a high value, high wage, export-led economy with recent innovations in agribusiness and electronics to match our high profile achievements in film and the creative sector.

Better than ever!

New Zealand offers sophisticated urban living, with fine restaurants and a vibrant arts scene. The 2007 Mercer Global Quality of Life survey confirmed Auckland and Wellington as the 5th and 12th best cities in the world to live in.

New Zealand is also committed to sustaining its environment. This is shown in the latest Yale University’s Environmental Performance Index, which gave New Zealand the highest score for national environmental protection results.

Most New Zealanders live within 30 minutes of the coast, we have 14 national parks and reserves, 10 commercial skifields, dramatic scenery and more golf courses per capita than
anywhere in the world.

New Zealand’s unique blend of cultures, youthful history and geography has shaped an open and inclusive society, with a progressive, global outlook.

If you come to New Zealand you can look forward to a great lifestyle and a bright future.

Welcome and Kia ora!

Hon Trevor Mallard
Minister of Economic Development
