Auckland Tamaki Makaurau
The Auckland region is more than a city. It’s a cluster of islands, each with its own story. It’s where there’s easy access to a harbour playground, where you can choose to work in the city, live in a rainforest, or all of those things. Everything is just a stone’s throw away and you have the ability to balance your life to suit you.
With a thriving economy and a strong cultural mix, Auckland has a rhythm all of its own. It feels international and local. It’s alive. Auckland is a new breed of place, for a new breed of people. More balance, more quality and more possibilities.
A diverse natural beauty and a cosmopolitan lifestyle
Stretching from the wild, expansive west coast and the Tasman Sea, to the white sand beaches of the Pacific Ocean in the east, the Auckland region is a marine playground, a gateway to other parts of New Zealand, and a centre for commerce, entertainment and education.
A unique and refreshing mix of people, places and cultures
Home to 1.3 million people from over 100 ethnicities, and from all corners of the world, the region is the largest and fastest growing in New Zealand.
An unmatchable approach to life
The region’s islands, bush and glistening harbours are set against the backdrop of a modern city environment, providing a platform for a lifestyle ranked fifth in the world for its overall quality of life – ahead of Sydney and Melbourne (2008 Mercer Index). Whether you want an outdoors lifestyle, an urban playground, or something in between, Auckland has something for everyone.
Opportunities galore
The Auckland region offers a vast range of job opportunities. The property and business services, manufacturing, retail and wholesale trade, health and community services and education sectors provide the majority of all jobs, while information and communications technology continues to grow along with niche areas such as screen production and biotechnology. Two-thirds of the country’s top 200 companies and nearly a quarter of the world’s Fortune 500 companies have a presence here.
World-class learning
Auckland is the education hub of New Zealand. The region boasts more than 530 schools, two universities - the University of Auckland, which is ranked as one of the top 50 universities in the world, and Auckland University of Technology, satellite campuses for other New Zealand universities, plus a number of polytechs, technical institutes and private training organisations.
Rugby World Cup 2011
In 2011 Auckland will come alive like never before. The region will be the hub of Rugby World Cup – the world’s third largest sporting event - which will be held in New Zealand over six weeks in September and October 2011. The semi-finals and final are already confirmed for Auckland’s revamped Eden Park, and other matches are likely to be played here too. With 20 countries participating and at least 60,000 international visitors expected to head down under for the 48-game tournament, it will be an exciting time to be in Auckland.
