Working in New Zealand

Sam Fairclough found a new life in NZ

I moved to New Zealand from the UK with my boyfriend in 2006. We were bored in London and wanted a change of lifestyle. I was apprehensive about moving so far away from family and friends, but have not looked back since we got here. I love it! We live in Wellington in a gorgeous three-bedroom house with a big garden – something that we would struggle to afford in London! One of the great things about living here is that it doesn't cost a fortune to have a good time and although we live in the capital city we are never more than a few minutes drive from feeling like we are in the middle of nowhere. At the same time Wellington is a vibrant and exciting city with an overwhelming choice of fantastic bars and restaurants!

I was a full-time artist in the UK, but to help familiarise myself with the art scene over here I work as the art consultant at The Lodge at Paratiho Farms in Nelson (South Island). I work from home and fly to Nelson every few weeks.
