E-Newsletter Troubleshooting

From time to time, we find that Working In visitors like yourself are not receiving our emails, despite having subscribed to the newsletter.

Generally this occurs because your spam filter is trapping the email before it can arrive in your inbox. In many cases, these emails will go straight into a folder labelled 'Junk', 'Bulk', 'Spam' or similar.

Each program has a different way of solving this issue. There are two main ways that this is done:

1. Most programs have spam mail settings. Usually this can be found in the email settings/preferences. In some programs you can add the sender to a 'safe senders' list (and also remove it from the 'blocked senders' list if it is there). The settings for each programme are slightly different so make sure you have a look at the different options.

For example:

  • In Outlook, follow the path Tools > Options and select the Preferences tab. (You can also find Junk Mail Options in the Actions menu.) Select the 'Junk Email' button and then the 'Safe Senders' or 'Blocked Senders' tab.
  • In Gmail, select the 'Contacts' button and add the email address to your Contacts.
  • In Yahoo!, select the 'Contacts' button and add the email address to your Contacts. To remove blocked addresses, follow the path Options > Email Options, select the 'Spam' tab and then select 'Block Addresses'.
  • In Hotmail, follow the path Options > Safe and Blocked senders (under the 'Junk Email' heading) and then select the 'Safe Senders' or 'Blocked Senders' options.

2. Many programs have a button that allows you to mark the message as legitimate. This will require you to find the message in your spam folder, select it, and then select the appropriate button.

For example:

  • In Gmail, select the message form the 'Spam' file, and select the 'Not Spam' button
  • In Yahoo!, select the message form the 'Spam' folder, and select the 'Not Spam' button
  • In Hotmail, select the message from the 'Junk' folder, and select the 'Not Junk' button
