Design, Build, & Rollout Fibre Optic Networks
A position is available for a Design Engineer - Fibre Optic Networks to join a small entrepreneurial firm which is in growth mode. The role encompasses the design (including physical topology), the preparation of project plans, the contracting out (of the civil work), the project management, the rollout of the networks, managing contractor and client relationships, extensive liaison, and preparing and process managing the required Resource Consent Applications.
To be successful in this role you are likely to have skills in some of the following:
How Fibre Optic Networks work
How the Internet works
How a Layer 2 Ethernet Network works
BGP Routing
How the Resource Management Act works and how to construct Consent Applications
How to prepare Contracts for Civil Works and other contractors
MPLS Switching and Routing
All the switches are CISCO so CISCO Certifications and a BE, NZCE or equivalent in electrical / electronics would also be useful. For example your early career might be in the old PO Technician career path and you have run with the times and moved into current architectures and protocols.
You will need intellect, confidence and panache – you might have to talk to a Government Minister one day, make the coffee the next day and be out on site with the civil contractors the day after. You won’t only be Designing but also setting up the project initially, contracting out and managing the civil works, etc, and project managing the actual rollout of the finished solution.
You will need a sense of humour, flexibility, energy, optimism, a reputation for excellence and delivery, and a current driver’s licence. Because it’s a small, growing company the scope of your role will be broad and dynamic and it will appeal to you if you are flexible and embrace change
