Purpose of Position
To maximise the availability and performance of mainframe and AIX Unix platforms through the effective management of the Enterprise Support team. Responsible for the delivery of infrastructure and business projects. The role requires the mentoring and development and appropriate allocation of these resources in order to meet customer requirements and Technology Operations responsibilities.
Areas of Responsibility for the Role
Management of resource. Development, mentoring and allocation of this resources across maintenance, projects, availability and initiatives
Availability, maintenance, capacity management and security of business critical internal systems
Lead Problem Management and Incident Management. Instil these processes into the Enterprise Support team
Recommend, develop and implement initiatives and strategies to improve technologies and processes within Enterprise Support and environment
Ensure adherence with audit, security and compliance requirements
Ensure adherence with change management requirements
Stay current with technologies
Develop, implement and adhere to technical standards
Ensure quality of technical solutions
Process management and process improvement
Improvement of overhead, efficiencies and cost reduction
Relationship building with business units and application owners
Ensure the Enterprise Support environment is secure
Ownership of Enterprise Support environment. Instil into Enterprise Support team that they know the environment best and need to make sure that technical solutions and process meet Technology Operations requirements
Recruitment of appropriately skilled personnel, and creation of an AIX Unix sub-team within Enterprise Services
Technical lead on the migration of critical systems to AIX Unix platforms

Essential Technical Skills and Qualifications required
Technical Skills
· Solid understanding of AIX Unix products and technologies.
· Solid understanding of mainframe products and technologies.
· General technical skills in LAN/WAN commercial company in an enterprise environment.
· Experience with shelf ware and bespoke solutions.
· Knowledge of recent and future technology trends.
· Good understanding ITIL practices.
Role Related Experience
· Previous management experience in corporate environment.
· Background and experiences working in complex technical environment.
· Project experiences as project resource and or project manager.
· Experience working as technical lead for incident, problem or project tasks.
· Experience of SDLC and Project Management lifecycle.
· Experience in managing and maintaining a technology platform, and the staff who support it.
· Experience in managing and maintaining a high availability transactional platform.
· Experience in recruiting and managing key technical staff.
· Experience with IBM's power virtualistion, AIX 5L and Power 5 or 6 server hardware.
Qualifications
· Sys Admin Level III certification.
· Other technical certifications.
· Academic study. Business and product development a bonus.
