Power Station Shift Engineer

Mighty River Power is an integrated energy generation business with a diverse and expanding portfolio of generation assets throughout the North Island. That portfolio includes the 9 power stations in the Waikato hydro scheme, the Southdown co generation station, an active biomass generation programme operating 3 landfill sites in Auckland and Wellington, as well as rapidly growing geothermal interests including those at Mokai, Rotokawa and Kawerau.

Mercury Energy, Mighty River’s energy retailer has more than 300,000 customers and its metering business, Metrix, provides state of the art metering equipment and meter-reading services.

We’re looking for a qualified Shift Engineer to join the team at our Southdown cogeneration facility, who is prepared to work a rostered shift due to the 24/7 nature of the operation. The power station is a 175 MW combined cycle cogeneration plant based on aeroderivative (LM6000) gas turbine technology sited in Penrose, South Auckland.

If you possess, or are working towards the NZQA Certificate of Energy and Chemical Plant (process operation) Level 4 (Steam Endorsement), First Class Engine Driver’s Certificate or other relevant engineering qualifications we’d really like to talk to you about this opportunity.

The following are desirable but not essential:

Knowledge of gas and steam turbines, steam generation, power generation, mechanical and electrical control systems

Experience in a process/generation environment

Experience of a DCS based system in an operating capacity.
