POWER SYSTEMS ENGINEER
NEW COMPANY, NEW ROLE, NEW OPPORTUNITY

That’s right, it’s a job that will appeal to Engineers with modelling skills, but only if you’re passionate about Renewable Energy.

Our client, Econnect, are a multinational consultancy, specialising in energising renewables - connecting renewable energy projects across the world and delivering innovative solutions from initial concept, to design, construction and commissioning. Econnect has developed innovative solutions in transmission networks, distribution networks and system operations, to support the growing penetration and integration of renewable energy generation.

Econnect have recently set up a New Zealand office and have already grown in size but they need to add another staff member to their Wellington CBD based team to keep up with the work and we are looking for a Power Systems Engineer to join the team.

This is a different and interesting job that will have you:
• Involved in key aspects of Power System Analysis for grid integration
• Negotiating strategies and connection methods with NSPs
• Producing Technical reports on Power System analysis studies
• Developing your knowledge of national regulations and legislations that will affect your role
• Carrying out feasibility studies on existing and Greenfield developments
• Carrying out power system and network studies, evaluation of compliance with codes, etc.

In general, you will undertake static and dynamic modelling and studies to determine the best ways for your clients to connect their generation assets to the national grid.

To do your job successfully, you will:
• Be tertiary qualified in Electrical Engineering or similar
• Have a minimum of 3 to 4 years experience in power systems engineering
• Have an in-depth knowledge of the PSS/E or DigSilent modelling software
• Have above average interpersonal and communications skills
• Have good numeracy and computer skills
• Have the ability to travel and even spend time off shore

It’s a job with an ongoing challenge that will require commitment, diligence, tact and diplomacy – to name just a few!

If you wish to travel, the potential exists to be involved in projects throughout the world! This role, for instance could be based in either Wellington New Zealand or Melbourne Australia.

Whilst we are ideally looking for an Expert in this field, we will consider people with a good working knowledge of the Power Industry and Grid Integration and could also consider a New Zealand Trained Graduate with good modelling abilities (working with the above software) and with a desire to get involved in renewable energy.

To attract people with suitable skills and experience, an attractive remuneration package is on offer, along with the chance to get involved in the future direction of New Zealand’s power industry.

It’s a modeller’s paradise, combined with the chance to get involved in wind power and other renewable energy techniques. Is it you?

Salary range NZ$70,000 to NZ$140,000.
