Healthdownsouth - Otago and Southland DHBs

  • Rewarding Career Options
  •   Excellent Lifestyle

Healthdownsouth offers an enormous number of positive new career and lifestyle opportunities which are just not available elsewhere…options allowing you to achieve a real balance in your life. You can achieve the freedom and flexibility to grow and realise your true potential and rewards, both professionally and personally.

Together Southland and Otago DHBs manage public hospitals in the lower South Island operating in a collaborative approach, including many shared services. Almost 70% of people live in the two major cities of Dunedin and Invercargill. If you’re familiar with New Zealand you’ll recognise internationally-renowned locations such as Queenstown, Wanaka, Fiordland, Steward Island, Central Otago and Dunedin’s famed Otago Peninsula.

Located in Invercargill City Southland Hospital is a 180 bed facility which continues to attract a mix of senior consultants and junior doctors because it offers very real opportunities to pursue specialist career paths. You’ll have exposure to a broad range of pathology with a high level of practical experience supported by senior staff.

Dunedin Hospital is a 350 bed facility with approximately 200 specialist consultants. Located in the heart of the city it embraces all specialities plus a broad range of sub-specialities including Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic, Radiation Oncology, Haematology, Renal Dialysis, Interventional Cardiology and Endocrinology.

Both Dunedin and Southland hospitals have a close relationship with The University of Otago and its prestigious Dunedin School of Medicine. You’ll have the chance to be more “hands-on” in terms of patient care and input and have access to academic, research, teaching and clinical pathways.
