New Zealand sporting organisations
New Zealand’s active, sporting culture
New Zealand is an outdoorsy, sporting nation with a virtually endless list of individual and team sporting activities available. Campaigns are regularly run on TV encouraging New Zealanders to get active and exercise in creative and enjoyable ways.
Many organisations are dedicated to providing networks and information so that you can expand your interest in whatever sporting endeavour gets you moving.
A government initiative, Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC), spends millions a year on promoting sport and recreational activities within New Zealand to support anyone with an interest in sport, from sponsoring the country’s top athletes to encouraging everyday people to get active.
Below is a list of some of the most popular national sporting organisations, as recognised by SPARC. The list is by no means exhaustive. If your favourite sport is not found below, visit SPARC’s list of national sporting organisations, where sports as unique as croquet and korfball can be found.
