Auckland Top 5 must do’s

When you can drag yourself away from the rugby, make sure you take some time out to see a few of Auckland’s favourite things.

  • Auckland Art Gallery
Spend a morning discovering the largest collection of art in New Zealand, then relax over a flat white and lunch at the gallery’s great café. The gallery has an impressive collection of early Maori portraits by Lindauer and Goldie.
  • Auckland Museum
At the heart of the city’s Domain, the museum is a great place for a wander. You can view the world’s largest collection of Maori and Pacific Island treasures, watch a Maori cultural performance, or head into grounds to feed the ducks at the lake or walk in the Winter Gardens.
  • Auckland Zoo
Time for an ‘animal encounter!’ You can go behind the scenes on a Zoom tour, check out the African wildlife at Pridelands, meet Burma the elephant and see a real kiwi bird!
  • Visit Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf Islands
You haven’t experienced the real Auckland until you’ve visited some of city’s stunning offshore islands. Walk through the world’s largest pohutukawa forest on Rangitoto, visit wineries, art studios and sandy beaches on Waiheke, explore the Mansion House and old copper mine ruins on Kawau, and see rare native birdlife on Tiritiri Matangi.
  • Explore the Waitemata Harbour
One look at Auckland’s beautiful harbour on a breezy day and you’ll see why it’s known as the City of Sails! Aucklanders own more yachts per capita than any other city in the world, and we love getting out on the water. You can take a sailing cruise, join a whale and dolphin safari, or pitch in and help crew an America’s Cup yacht
