Why buy a franchise?
For Gary Taber, the answer is simple: So you can live the life you love and love the life you live.
“My wife and I visited New Zealand on Christmas 2005 and fell in love with the country, the space and the people.
That was it for us. We were getting so fed up with the UK so it was ‘New Zealand here we come’!
“Twenty months later we arrived on the shores of New Zealand with two large hold alls full of clothes, a few photographs, an address book and a laptop. We were homeless – we had sold our house and most of our furniture. We were dead set on getting jobs and aiming for residency. It sounded like a good idea but, after some time, we realised we were not getting anywhere. We decided on a plan B – business entry.
“We looked at loads of franchises and Hire a Hubby was the most impressive. Hire a Hubby is a household name, has national branding, is well-established and has been operating in New Zealand for 10 years.
“We did a lot of research, spoke to existing Hubbies and got great feedback. The thing that clinched it for me was the magenta T-shirts. In the end, we went for it. We got heaps of help from the head office and the Hubby network. I submitted my business plan to Immigration New Zealand and sailed through until I got my visa and work permit.
“This franchise has far exceeded my business plan, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. The customers are great and the variety of work is amazing. If I ever get stuck, there is always someone to talk to and help me out. We have made loads of new friends and socialise a lot.
“There is a lot to see and do in your spare time in New Zealand – and the big bonus is a lot of it is free!”
