Coromandel

Located within an hour and a half drive from cities such as Auckland and Hamilton, the Coromandel peninsula is an attractive place to many New Zealanders who flock to the region, especially to enjoy their holidays during the summer months.

Golden and white sand beaches and stunning coastal scenery, complemented by a rugged forest, make Coromandel one of the most beautiful regions in the North Island.

Temperatures in the region range between 24C and 31C in summer and 12C and 14C during winter.

The population is concentrated in a small number of towns along the coast, such as Coromandel township, Whitianga, Thames, Tairua and Whangamata.

The Coromandel region was once known for its strong gold mining and kauri industries. Nowadays, the focus is on the ecotourism industry.
