New Zealand universities high in world ranking
Five of New Zealand’s eight universities are listed in this year’s Academic Ranking of World Universities.
Auckland, Otago, Massey, Canterbury and Victoria Universities all placed in the top 500, making New Zealand an even more attractive location for international students.
“No other country has 63% of its universities included on that list,” commented Robert Stevens, chief executive of Education New Zealand.
Last month, another international ranking published in London’s Times Higher Education supplement featured Auckland University in the top 100. The university ranked number 61, up from the 65th place it had achieved last year.
In the Academic Ranking of World Universities, Auckland and Otago ranked between 201 and 302, Massy, Canterbury and Victory between 402 and 501.
The ranking was released by the Centre for World Class Universities at China's Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China and took into account a number of factors, including the quality of research papers produced and the standing of academic staff.
