What is a ‘genuine offer of employment’?

To determine whether a New Zealand employer has a valid vacancy, Immigration New Zealand may request to see evidence of a ‘genuine offer of employment’.

To be genuine, an employment offer must be valid at the time your application is assessed and must meet the requirements of New Zealand’s employment laws.

An employment offer must include the following:

  • Your name and address
  • The employer’s name, address and full contact details
  • The address of the place of employment
  • The job title or designation
  • The type of work, duties and responsibilities of the job
  • Qualifications and experience requirements
  • Confirmation of whether or not New Zealand registration is required
  • The duration of the job
  • How long the job offer will remain open
  • Details of pay and conditions of employment
