The NZ Government and KiwiRail are currently delivering a significant investment in New Zealand’s rail network. To support that investment now, and in the future, Downer New Zealand is committed to developing and growing its capacity and capability in key technical disciplines to assist in delivering the rail programme.

 

As a result, we are seeking an experienced Systems Engineering Lead to join our Rail Systems Engineering team based in Wellington, New Zealand. The purpose of the Systems Engineering Lead is to provide Systems Engineering Leadership to ensure the project systems engineering objectives and requirements are satisfied using approved systems engineering processes. 

 

As a key part of our team you will:

  • Manage system engineering processes and activities in a timely manner in accordance with the Systems Engineering Management Plan and the client’s requirements
  • Ensure all Rail System projects adhere to assurance and acceptance processes as set out in the SAMP
  • Ensure all Rail System projects to adhere to V&V processes as set out in the SAMP
  • Effectively manage team members to deliver systems engineering deliverables to meet project requirements in a quality, safe and timely manner
  • Promote a harmonious team working culture
  • Ensure Downer EDI Engineering staff delivers against our Downer and client quality targets
  • Effective management of HS&E to ensure safety for all
  • Achieve rail safety accreditation
  • Cultural of personal and team responsibility for Zero Harm developed
  • Zero Harm policies and practices are complied with under H&S policy, the Zero Harm Policy and other related policies and initiatives to keep yourself and others safe at Downer in the workplace.

To excel as part of our collaborative, forward thinking team you’ll bring:

  • Degree in a related Engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Rail Systems or Systems Engineering environment
  • Experience in managing a team and systems engineering activities
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act governance / quality / standards
  • Excellent communication skills and able to communicate with a wide variety of people
  • System engineering standards and system / software development methodologies and processes
  • Ability to lead a team and work autonomously
  • Good work organisation and ethics, professional presentation and conduct, excellent analytical and planning skills
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in the Microsoft® Office suite of software and other packages (eg Jira, DOORS, Excel, RAMS calculation etc) required specific to systems engineering
  • Knowledge and technical skills relating to the relevant engineering field
  • A Professional Member (or suitable for admission) of the institution of Engineering New Zealand
  • Be (as a minimum) a corporate Member of the IRSE (or able to gain)
