This role as the Intellectual Difficulty Nurse (as it’s referred to in New Zealand) is based in the Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it’s often known. It is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand, operating in four districts and five prisons.
We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services including secure inpatient and acute rehabilitation services which connect to the community rehabilitation services. We also offer services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Maori, court liaison and prison mental health services. Including a regional to service Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland.
Our inpatient services consist of seven forensic mental health inpatient units and an intellectual disability unit that assess, treat and assist in the recovery of people with mental illness or intellectual disability who have committed a criminal offence or are at high risk in the community.
We continue to develop the services for the future and are looking to recruit an experienced Registered Nurse. You will be working in the Forensic Intellectual Disability Unit, previous experience within this field will be an advantage.
In this role, you will ensure nursing care of the highest quality in accordance with the Nursing Council of New Zealand scope of practice (Registered Nurse) and the WDHB Professional Development and Recognition Portfolio.
