Job Description

A bit about us and how your experience could match

We are looking for individuals with experience in rolling stock engineering, maintenance and asset management to join our team in New Zealand. KiwiRail is undergoing a once-in-a-generation investment in procurement of new assets (locomotives, freight wagons and passenger coaches) and refurbishment of our existing rolling stock; we have a supportive government stakeholder and need to grow our capability and capacity to deliver on the expectations of New Zealand. We are seeking people to help us design and deliver new locomotives, freight wagons and passenger vehicles, and to provide technical input and support for major modifications and refurbishment of existing rolling stock. If you have experience in these areas and a desire to work in an environment where you will have the ability to lead and influence the revitalisation of the railway then please come to meet us while we are in the UK.

We are seeking to fill a number of roles from junior engineers (3+ years’ experience) right up to senior engineering leadership roles. These roles will give you a high degree of autonomy and ability to directly influence in your areas of expertise. KiwiRail is a highly rewarding environment for people who are self-starting, diligent and tenacious – we have a huge task ahead of us over the coming years as we introduce new and refurbished assets and transform our business practices to meet the growing expectations of our customers and government stakeholders. Creating Stronger Connections for a Better New Zealand.

Your Skillset:

Design engineering in railway rolling stock (locomotives (diesel and electric) and passenger coaches in particular)

Asset management and knowledge of ISO55000, in particular developing and implementing asset management plans and practice in rolling stock or another complex technical asset environment (e.g. aerospace, road transport)

Technical project delivery of modification and/or refurbishment projects to existing asset bases, ideally in rolling stock or another complex technical asset environment (e.g. aerospace, road transport).

Technical management of new locomotive projects, including engineering design, manufacturing oversight and commissioning

Your relevant experience:

  • Railway rolling stock engineering (design and input to procurement, modification, accreditation)
  • Railway rolling stock maintenance and operations (through-life support)
  • Railway rolling stock asset management, or asset management aligned with ISO55000 in a complex technical asset environment (aerospace, road transport)

Your Benefits:

  • A role with influence and growth in investment, one that will need someone to work with vigor and pace to bring our teams on the journey with us.
  • An opportunity to be part of a leadership team that is changing the way we work
  • Discounted health and medical insurance
  • Flexible location - Wellington or Auckland

We're a company that's going places, with so much investment in our future infrastructure, there has not been a better time to be part of the successful development of KiwiRail. Be a part of the KiwiRail journey!
