Job Description

We are now recruiting for a Senior Transport Planner to provide technical transport planning expertise and project management skills to support the transport planning team. This position is also responsible for providing direction to the wider organisation on Transport strategy and planning to enable community outcomes and a more multi modal transport system.

This is a Senior position where you would lead strategy and planning activities for Council. Critical to this role is working closely and building relationships with the community and key stakeholders. To achieve this you will have experience in delivering best practice integrated, effective and multi modal transport strategies policies and plans.

As a Senior Transport Planner you will have sound technical experience, strong engagement and communication skills, and an ability to build positive relationships.

To be suitable for this position you will have 7 plus years of experience in Transportation planning and or Transport Policy development, experience managing and delivering complex projects and developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships.

Skills and Experience:

    • Degree in Transport Planning, Urban Planning, Geography or Civil Transportation Engineering or relevant equivalent
    • Current Full Drivers Licence
    • A minimum of seven years’ experience in transportation planning.
    • Proven ability in transportation planning and/or transport policy development.
    • Experience in managing projects.
    • Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks and initiatives from inception to conception.
    • Sound PC skills with the ability to use Microsoft packages at intermediate level.


  • Post graduate (or Master) degree in Transportation Planning or relevant equivalent.
  • Chartered Member of CIHT, CILT, TPS or being a Chartered Engineer
  • Experience in working for or in the local government environment.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement with professional organisations and local community residents. Knowledge and understanding of infrastructure design guidelines.
