Job Description

This linchpin position will lead the tactical transport planning and ensure integration with the City & Infrastructure Planning Division and PMO working between the strategic planning function and the detailed design and delivery programme management of the transport outcomes for Tauranga.

The focus of this position is to deliver best practice integrated, effective and multi-modal transport strategies, policies and plans for Tauranga. Lead the development of potential solutions to address transport problems such as safety improvements, freight efficiencies, junction improvements, cycle ways, pedestrian priority schemes, bus interchange, car parking areas or bus priority facilities etc.

As a Transport Planner expert you will be an advocate for multi-modal transportation planning and have strong engagement and communications skills to build positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders with internal TCC departments and external organisations. You will also contribute to public communication and consultation processes relating to transportation and have good insight into the long term plan process, Regional Transport Committee and other planning bodies.

This position requires a degree in Transport Planning or Civil Transportation Engineering or relevant equivalent, experience working in local government or the private sector and in the operation of transportation systems and 10 years experience in transportation planning.

Skills and Experience:

    • Degree in Transport Planning or Civil Transportation Engineering or relevant equivalent
    • Experience in the local government environment
    • Proven commercial, business and political acumen
    • Experience in managing successful relationships with multiple stakeholders
    • Experience in the operation of transportation systems


  • Post graduate degree in Transportation Planning
  • Chartered Professional Engineer
  • Experience in community engagement
