Job Description

We provide road construction & maintenance, bituminous surfacing, earthworks, drainage, water & waste water, landscaping, bridge construction, piling, marina & wharf construction, precast & pre-stressed concrete and structural steel services to key clients. We are looking for an experienced Leading Hand/Operator to join this busy team.

The Role:

  • Comply with company procedures and policies
  • Coordinating the Roading construction activities for the company in conjunction with the project managers & business unit managers
  • Working closely with the supervisors and site teams to provide the most appropriate resources for the work
  • Ensuring that projects are adequately resourced - both self-perform and subcontractor
  • Ensuring the sites comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act and are monitored frequently by the site team
  • Health and safety hazard identification and encouragement of green card usage
  • Ensuring machines and vehicles are up to standard at all times during usage
  • Approving time-sheets and job sheets submitted by crews and supervisor team
  • Advising site team on the progress of the project so that it meets the programme
  • Ordering of small tools, plant & materials where required
  • Approving invoices if required
  • Recommendations to Business Unit Manager regarding employment of staff and purchase of plant
  • Completing accident records/investigations and notification to OSH of any accidents
  • Managing personnel through injuries at work
  • Monitoring resources across projects and highlighting upcoming shortfalls or standing time
  • Mentoring ground staff
  • Assessing competencies of staff on plant
  • Complying with Company's Quality Assurance system
  • Complying with Company's Environmental Controls system
  • Any other duties required from time to time from within the Group


  • Practical experience in Roading
  • Current drivers licence
  • Excellent communications skills both written and oral
  • Planning and organisational skills - both personal and as applied to projects and documents
