Job Description

An exciting opportunity has risen for a Charge Nurse for the Oncology Service at Braemar Hospital – one of New Zealand’s leading private hospitals based in Hamilton, Waikato.


Reporting to the Patient Services Manager, the role of the Charge Nurse is to provide professional management and clinical and nursing leadership.

This role requires someone with a strong clinical background in Oncology and Haematology nursing as well as proven leadership experience in a Charge Nurse or similar role.


A new Medical Services Building (MSB) is due to open soon and Braemar’s Oncology Department will occupy the first floor.


The Oncology Charge Nurse role is to:

  • Provide expert clinical leadership and co-ordination of resources for the safe, effective, and efficient functioning of the service.
  • Plan and coordinate the patient journey including admission processes, treatment and care, and planning for discharge.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate relevant clinically focused education systems and resources to maintain and nurture staff skills, knowledge, and competencies relevant to the area of practice.

  • Enhancement of patient experience and effective teamwork and collaborative relationships
  • Quality improvement initiatives
  • Current practical skills
  • A passion for quality care and outstanding customer service

A post-graduate qualification is desirable (or working towards).

A minimum of six years recent and relevant clinical experience.

You will be a New Zealand Registered Nurse (with current APC) - or eligible for registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
