About the role:

 

This is a career defining opportunity for a Commercial Manager to genuinely drive the outcome of our future. The Commercial Manager will shape, influence, and drive the financial performance and strategic journey on some of New Zealand’s largest infrastructure assets and operations.  

 

You will be responsible for strategically identifying, progressing, and executing new and existing business whilst co-creating value with a high performing regional team, motivating, and enabling them to perform at their very best. 

This is a pivotal role within our region that entails a fair degree of planning, level-headed judgement, and most importantly, strong communication and relationship building. 

 

We take the hard work out of finding the best of the best people to do the work, your job will be to empower them to continue to optimise the maximum value for our clients and in turn Downer. 

 

About you:

 

Downer are looking for someone who has the capability to draw the best out of others, encouraging them to contribute and to identify personally with our group objective. Technically, you will have skills and experience in the following areas: 

 

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree/higher qualification or at least 5 years relevant experience
  • A strong and influential negotiator with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in a commercial role preferably with contractors in predominantly civil infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of maintenance and/or construction within the infrastructure sector
  • Proven experience of business development in a commercial environment

 

Day to day you will be: 

  • Determining, implementing, monitoring, reviewing and evaluating budgetary and accounting strategies, policies and plans in consultation with other Managers
  • Providing financial information and interpreting the implications for business performance and funding needs
  • Coordinating the development, implementation and monitoring of accounting systems
  • Directing the preparation of financial reports that summarise and forecast the organisations financial position such as income statements, balance sheets and analyses of future earnings and income
  • Assessing capital finance proposals and the financial status of operational projects
  • Advising on investment strategies, sources of funds and the distribution of earnings
  • Delivering long range profit forecasts, budgeting and financial reporting 
  • Ensuring compliance with financial legislation and standards
