3 rocking reasons you should live and work in New Zealand

It can seem such an impossibility. Moving to New Zealand? It’s so far away … well, that may be true, but is a long flight really enough to put you off from moving to one of the most sought-after destinations on the planet? It shouldn’t – but even so, we here at Working In have put together three simple reasons that will help make your mind up.

At the moment, the unemployment rate in New Zealand is just under 5 percent. However, with just under 5 million people living here competition for even the juiciest jobs can be low. Additionally, some roles are more in demand than others, indicating sizeable gaps in the jobs market.

Because of this, the NZ government has devised the ‘skills shortage list’ as it looks overseas for qualified, experienced professionals to plug those gaps. Roles appearing on the skills shortage list allow such people an easier path to a work or residence visa, and range from health, construction and mechanical roles – take a look at our jobs section to see what’s available.

Beauty and bounty

Simply type ‘New Zealand’ into a Google image search. Go on, do it. Each of those sumptuous pictures that appear are real – that’s what New Zealand really looks like. All that gorgeous scenery you’ve seen in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ films or on any travel show about the place is the real deal – no filter needed!

Those mountains, lakes, forests and rivers fill the land at every turn, but it’s not all about the landscape. Vibrant, cosmopolitan cities and traditional towns are also found on any self-respecting New Zealand road trip, so whatever setting you fancy, you can be sure to find it here. From the urban sprawl of Auckland to the adventure playground that is Queenstown, wherever you lie your hat in New Zealand, that’s your home.

Living the life

In New Zealand, we don’t live to work, but we do believe in good, old-fashioned honest graft. That doesn’t mean that we’re permanently chained to our desks or on the building site 24/7 – no, we do all our work during paid hours. After that, it’s tools down and off to the beach or ski slopes!

New Zealand was ranked third in the world with regards to work-life balance, in a survey carried out by HSBC. That very same survey put us top of the tree when it comes to ‘quality of life’ – not bad, eh? Part of the reason behind that might be our relatively small population. Take a leisurely stroll through one of Auckland park’s or Wellington’s leafy streets – you’ll arrive at work in the right frame of mind every time!

Remember, we at Working In can help you make the move. Be sure to get in touch with us to find out more!
