It’s likely always been there in the back of your mind. There it is, slowly chewing away at you like it has been for the last few years now. That ever-nagging itch that you’ve yet to scratch – creating a new life for yourself in beautiful New Zealand. You’ve researched where you could live and work, taken a read of several travel guides, looked at photographs online – and maybe even visited the place itself.
Even so, you’ve never quite managed to drum up the motivation, courage, conviction or drive to finally jump onboard that plane. That’s okay – here at Working In, our ‘New Year, New Life, New Zealand’ campaign is designed to help people just like you get in gear and take the plunge in 2018! Read on to find out how we can help – and how you can help yourself.
Talkin’ ‘bout a Resolution
Let’s make this exciting New Year’s resolution a reality in 2018. You won’t be alone – did you know that ‘pursuing a career ambition’ is a popular New Year goal?
That’s right – according to a YouGov poll, chasing a long-held life career ambition ranks sixth in most popular New Year’s resolutions, ahead of quitting smoking, cutting down on social media and moderating your drinking.
A fine ambition to hold, but perhaps your current situation doesn’t allow much wiggle room when it comes to boosting your career prospects. On top of that, a report by Business Insider states that a whopping 80 per cent of New Year’s resolutions all but fail by the time February rolls around, leaving you stuck staring at the grey, rainy skies from your humdrum office job for another year at least. So, what are you to do?
We think you know. There’s never been a better time to put your grand plan into action than in 2018, and no better place to live and work, than New Zealand. Here’s how you can do it.
Getting on the job train
If you’re coming to New Zealand for anything other than a holiday (which you are!), ideally, you’re going to need a job and a visa to allow you to live and work in the country. The trouble is, you typically need one to get the other. It’s tough to get a job offer without a visa, but Immigration NZ often won’t offer you the documentation you need without you having first secured a job.
Don’t worry – we at Working In are here to help. We’ve struck up partnerships with a whole host of reputable New Zealand companies, each of which are on the lookout for skilled, experienced professionals from overseas to help fill the gaps in their workforce. Through these partnerships, workers looking to make the move to New Zealand can apply for a position from the comfort of their own home. You can upload your CV, cover letter and whatever else your potential employer requires, attend an interview via the power of Skype or Google Hangouts, and, if things go well for you, you’ll be offered a role.
Next, you’ll need a visa to enable you to work, live, and get paid in New Zealand legally – and it’s much easier to get one once you have a job offer.
Sorting out a visa
Getting a New Zealand work visa can be hard. The application process can be both complex and time- consuming, and frustrating for those that charge into it unprepared. There are so many different variables when it comes to applying for a New Zealand work visa, it’s impossible to say how long it might take for one to be approved.
There are several to choose from, such as the Working Holiday Visa, and the Essential Skills Visa, each of which have their own specific criteria. Which one you choose will depend upon your circumstances, so it’s well worth doing your research before you dive in. Our licensed immigration advisors can help you decide which is most suitable for you, and the best way to go about applying.
Securing your visa is an enormous step in making it to New Zealand, so getting it right is paramount to success. Leaving your application to the last minute can cause serious issues such as job offers being withdrawn, or errors in documentation – and you don’t want to be upsetting either potential employers or the good folk at Immigration NZ! Our team can help you through this process.
Things you’re probably worried about, but shouldn’t be
It’s true – loads of our clients are embarrassed to even think about applying for a new life abroad. They may think that past misdemeanours may count against them, or are red-faced by certain health issues – but you needn’t be embarrassed.
Every day at Working In we hear extraordinary stories about our clients’ lives. We promise every client 100 per cent total discretion (which is a condition of our licence to operate as immigration advisors), so there’s no need to worry. We’re like doctors in that respect – tell us everything. It’s against the law for us to repeat any of your private information elsewhere without your permission, so rest easy.
The more you tell us, the more accurately we can predict whether or not your application will work out. You can trust us to do right by you.
- I’m confused by all of this visa stuff!
But of course, you are. That’s only natural – a pile of governmental paperwork (especially from another country) is never going to be a walk in the park, is it? Luckily, at Working In, we have a team of licensed immigration advisors, dedicated to helping people do exactly what you are trying to do right now. It’s all our immigration consultants do, all day, every day.
They’ll help you with all the hard parts, so they’re no longer hard. They’ll tell you which visa you should apply for, and whether you’re likely to get it approved, and what you have to do to get it. If there are any obstacles, they’ll know exactly how to overcome them. Working with a licensed advisor, you’ll be more likely to get your visa approved, and get it faster.
Three tips for success
- Keep checking the Working in jobs board. They’re constantly updated, featuring job opportunities across a broad range of sectors. Additionally, these companies are actively looking to employ skilled migrants, so if your skills match, you’re in with an excellent chance!
- Harness the skills of an immigration advisor. Our team of experts will help you choose the best roles to apply for, as well as ensuring you have the best chance of meeting visa requirements.
- Focus is key – as is staying positive if things don’t go as smoothly as you’d like. Both job and visa applications can take a fair bit of time and perseverance, so a determined attitude is essential in seeing things through. You can do it, and we will help!
