Naval Architect

Naval Architects, there are amazing opportunities now to move to New Zealand, with the occupation being selected by the New Zealand Government to be eligible for the straightforward ‘Straight to Residency’ pathway on tier 1 of the Green list.

Day to day responsibilities may include:

  • creating or adapting designs, drawings, written plans and technical calculations for ships, yachts, or boats
  • Aligning designs with safety regulations
  • Consulting with clients, professionals, and government officials on designs
  • Conducting computer simulation and physical tests
  • Manage the design and building process of boats and ships
  • Overseeing repairs, changes, and upgrades
  • Managing shipyards.

Ideally, your knowledge and experience may include:

  • Boat building and structural engineering
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamics (water pressures and flows) and aerodynamics (air pressure and flows) and the effect they can have on vessels
  • Boat handling, marine standards and safety regulations
  • Design, draughting and sketching skills
  • Computer-aided design (CAD) and 3-D modelling programs.
