Found at the southern tip of the South Island, Stewart Island is NZ’s third-largest, though it’s much smaller than the main two. With a total area of under 2,000 square kilometres, Stewart Island is made of rugged granite and is one of the last stop before Antarctica – so the weather can get a little bracing! Even so, there are many spectacular walks to be had on Stewart – and it’s just an hour’s ferry trip from the mainland.
