New Plymouth, in Taranaki was judged the Top Town to live, love, work and play in New Zealand (North & South Magazine) and the best small city in the world (UN – backed Liveable Communities Awards).
A region on the up
Taranaki’s economy is built on black and white gold – oil exploration and dairy production. Innovative and progressive, Taranaki excels in engineering, manufacturing, horticulture, health, education, tourism, super-yacht building and film. There are work opportunities throughout the region in the engineering, oil and gas, business, health, IT and education sectors. Check out the Taranaki jobs website for current opportunities.
A legendary landscape
At the heart of Taranaki is Mount Taranaki with over 300km of hiking trails and a ski field in winter. Beneath the mountain is a rich plain with countless parks and gardens and beyond this a surf coast with some of New Zealand’s best breaks and two Blue Flag beaches. It’s a landscape built for exploration and adventure.
Rich in arts and culture
Taranaki’s stories are told through New Zealand’s finest museums spanning everything from local history to Elvis Presley. It’s a hotbed for creativity – the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery is one of the country’s best - and has an envied major events calendar with regular sports events, music festivals and international performances.
Family friendly
It’s easy to live and work in Taranaki. There are great facilities for every sport and pastime and highly regarded schools. You won’t spend time in traffic jams – a 10-minute commute means you’re probably living in the country – which means more time to spend with your family making the most of Taranaki’s temperate climate.
