Tricks of the trade: Why New Zealand is the perfect place for tradies to triumph

22 May 2018

Trade and Services Jobs remain in hot demand across New Zealand. We’re not just saying that for the sake of getting you over here – we think the attraction of moving to New Zealand speaks for itself. Even so, we thought we’d put together a nice little article to help convince you to down tools wherever you are in the world, then pick them back up again as you start a new life in New Zealand.

Read on to find out just why tradies stand an excellent chance of both finding Trade and Services work in New Zealand and scoring a visa, as well as why you should want to come here in the first place.

The need for tradies in NZ is not letting up

There are no two ways about it – New Zealand needs tradies. Plumbers, electricians, builders and line mechanics are all in short supply, so if you have the necessary skills and qualifications, NZ wants to hear from you.

The country is growing at a rapid rate, with houses, office and roadways all waiting to be built – and that’s before we even mention the ongoing Christchurch rebuild. There’s a lot of work to be done – and you can play a big part in it.

Who wouldn’t want to live in New Zealand?

Few countries rival New Zealand for the quality of life, work/life balance and the sheer amount of things to see and do. When people think of NZ, they perhaps conjure images of the Lord Of The Rings films, or maybe the haka danced by the mighty All Blacks. Sure, both of those are part of what makes New Zealand famous, but there’s so much more to the country. Modern, vibrant cities, acre upon acre of untouched countryside, glaciers, lakes, forests and waterfalls – and most of it easily accessible. Who’s to stop you heading to the beach or ski slopes after work?

An opportunity knocks…

We’ve already talked about the sheer shortage of tradies in New Zealand, and how a skilled, qualified professional such as yourself will be able to waltz into the country, job in place and work visa in hand. To further bolster our words, the New Zealand government’s careers website lists the chances of nailing a job in any trade sector as ‘good’. Now, if you can’t trust a government source, who can you trust? (To back even that statement up, New Zealand was recently voted the least corrupt country on the planet by Transparency International). Can’t say fairer than that!

Need help getting across?

You probably do, if it’s the sort of thing you’ve never done before. And that’s fair enough – no one said starting a new life on the other side of the world was simple! Even so, we at Working In will help you along the way in any which way we can. We’ve helped more skilled migrants than we can count make the trip, by matching their skills and qualifications to job opportunities across the country.

Additionally, we have a jobs board full-to-bursting with sweet career options – it’s constantly updated, so keep an eye out just in case your dream role comes along. What’s more, you can apply right there and then from the comfort of your favourite armchair/bed/cafe – it’s as easy as that!

To find out more, be sure to take a look around our website – we have a raft of information, blog posts and thought pieces to help make your mind up, as well as visa advice, location guides and everything in between.

We look forward to seeing you in New Zealand – just make sure you know the rules of rugby!
